Today we’re going to jump into some more recent NetGalley statistics to give anyone who may be considering giving this a try. You can also check out our main NetGalley page for other information to help you make your decision (and if you’re unsure about what NetGalley is or how it works, I recommend you start there). The plan was to list our 20 most recently archived NetGalley listings (as of when I started this post, not necessarily as of today), but after going through ten I realized that we had a lot of the same genres archive recently. So we’ll start with our ten most recently archived titles and go from there.

Apologies for the giant wall of text!

Things to keep in mind:
– Review feedback is still submittable after a book is archived, the book is only no longer able to be downloaded. The feedback numbers will not be a final representation of how many reviews a book gets through NetGalley.
– Most, but not all feedback submitted are full reviews. Sometimes they are simply star ratings from librarians/booksellers to let us know if they’ll be purchasing the book and their general thoughts, sometimes they are notes from bloggers saying they didn’t enjoy the book and won’t be reviewing it.
– Not all NetGalley users submit their reviews through NetGalley. Sometimes they will simply post to Amazon/Goodreads/Etc but not let us know the review has gone up.

So those are our most recent ten. Something interesting to note about the cover ratings. These are not at all mandatory, and a reader doesn’t even have to show interest in a book in order to rate its cover. We’ve also found that NetGalley readers are much more likely to rate a cover they view positively than to give a negative rating. So generally speaking, they will give a thumbs up for a great cover but not rate at all if they don’t enjoy a cover.

These next few statistics are still from recent archives on our accounts, but we’re going to skip a few in order to give a better sense through multiple genres or other mitigating factors.

And there we have it! 18 of our more recent NetGalley listings and how much interest they did. I wish I could show more specific examples without having to give away any specific title information, but the main take away here has a lot to do with covers and how important a quality cover is in drawing interest in your book (both on NetGalley and otherwise). You of course also need a quality book in order to convince readers to keep reading once they’ve picked up your title.

Though these stats only scratch the surface of the books we have represented over the past few years I can very safely say that with the right cover and blurb, plus quality writing any genre of book can bring in a lot of review interest through NetGalley. Romance and New Adult will likely always be our most popular genres, but that will likely remain true for the publishing industry as a whole as well.
